Founder Profile
Alex Gutierrez Sr.Owner And CEO
Alex Gutierrez Sr. took an unconventional path into paving. He started his career in the electronics industry in San Jose, California, where he was one of the first employees at Atari, then moved into manufacturing leadership managing teams of more than 50 people.
In 1985 he brought that corporate discipline to Arizona and founded American Asphalt, running an asphalt company with structured management at a time when that was unheard of in the Valley. That approach built a client list that includes work as a contractor on the first leg of the Phoenix light rail.
